A TRIBUTE TO CHEF JACQUES PÉPIN
The Harvest Tribute event at Stone Acres Farm in Stonington, CT on October 13, 2019 is a celebration of local legend, Chef Jacques Pépin, of the love of food, of the power of education, of our community, and of all our commitment to great agricultural and culinary practices from seed to harvest to plate.
The event is the culmination of a four year project celebrating Jacques Pépin and his lifelong influence in culinary arts and home cooking. Chef Pépin has touched the lives and the kitchens of professional cooks, and lovers of food and cooking, through hundreds of hours of television programming and over 30 cookbooks.
At the Harvest Tribute event, the non-profit Jacques Pepin Legacy Fund, in collaboration with the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center, will unveil a bronze bust of Jacques, crafted by internationally renowned sculptor Zenos Frudakis, mounted upon a granite base harvested from Stony Creek Quarry in CT, as well as casts of Jacques' hands, and a sculpture by Jacques himself mounted on a metal sculpture by Hadar Metalworks.
The elements of the installation will be seamlessly incorporated by landscape architects Reed Hilderbrand into the landscape of Stone Acres Farm, just outside the door of the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center, where children and their teachers come to learn about food and food studies. We are overjoyed to present this installation of the legendary chef on a property that represents both our agricultural past and our educational future for a sustainable food system that provides for our needs and nurtures our soils.
